Yearbook joins the
'clubs' on campus

Plans are in the works for a 1997-'98 SXU yearbook thanks to a 10-3 vote for a Yearbook Club. The voting was held at an emergency Inter Club Council (ICC) Meeting.

Celia Ocampo, director of ICC, was pleased with the acceptance fo the club. "It's nice to know that I was a part of SAB when the yearbook was instituted as a club," said Ocampo.

This was the second attempt by the Yearbook Committee to present their financial and production capabilities to I.C.C. The Yearbook Committee lost in a 7-5 vote at last month's ICC Leadership Conference meeting.

Hanah Jubeh and Meredith Mastrobuoni presented their proposal for a Yearbook Club at the March meeting. They're currently planning a publishing of 250 yearbooks for next year. Kim Johnson, director of Student Leadership Development, said she was very impressed by the professionalism of the recent presentation. "I wish the students well in their endeavor," commented Johnson.

Jubeh said that when Mouser gave her presentation last month she was unprepared for the line of questioning directed towards the cost of publishing the yearbook. Mouser, along with the rest of the yearbook committee, just wanted to have the Yearbook Club officially recognized on campus rather than promise a yearbook by the end of this academic year.

Josh Dennis, political forum president, said he was very happy with the acceptance of the Yearbook Club. "They gave a strong convincing presentation which dispelled any of the problems which were evident in the lack of professionalism shown in the first presentation," said Dennis.

The Yearbook also plans to put out a pictoral SXU calendar by the end of this year according to Jubeh. This calendar will feature all students of every culture and background. Funding for the calendars will come from Student Activities. This will demonstrate that they can accomplish a yearbook for the university. "If we can put out a calendar we can put out a yearbook," said Jubeh.
